Bruce Ferguson is the Chairman of Helmsman International Group. He has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of California. Bruce is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Project Management and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Bruce has thirty years of project delivery, support and strategic implementation planning. Over fifteen years of Research into project performance drivers, with a focus on complexity, governance and organisational capability, as well as leadership and direction for the Project industry. Bruce works with clients at the executive level and has developed a depth of experience on how to engage executive leadership effectively to drive operational changes. Greg Hewson is the Managing Partner of Helmsman International Group. He has a Masters of Defence Studies from Canberra University, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Greg has more than 25 years’ experience providing strategic advisory services, including 10 years at Defence and 15 years in Booz Allen Hamilton, Booz & Company and Helmsman. Greg effects change through strong leadership around the right case for action and organisational strategy, providing advice to the governing bodies as well as to the teams on the ground. Having also planned and managed major capital projects in Australia and overseas, Greg is a topic expert on capability development, supplier performance through contracts, sustainment operating models and implementation including performance management and cost-benefit analysis. Greg is a highly sought after advisor in the Defence, Defence Industry, Immigration and Border Force and Civil Aviation arenas.
Stephen Clynk is a Partner of Helmsman International Group and the firm’s Defence sector lead. He has a Masters of Management from Canberra University, a Bachelor of Science from the University of New South Wales and is a Managing Successful Programs Practitioner. Steve has broad experience across the public, civil aviation and not for profit sectors but with deep Defence and Aviation experience and knowledge. Having designed and led major transformation activities, he has significant experience in executive engagement, change leadership, enterprise performance improvement, program management and operations management. Steve has held numerous leadership roles both in Defence and as a CEO in the civil aviation sector and enjoys working with Boards, C level executives and operational leaders to design and implement performance improvement initiatives. Julian Mitton is a highly experienced ‘C’ suite corporate advisor. He is the firm’s Infrastructure sector lead and the head of Helmsman’s Project Performance practice. Julian’s 25 year management and advisory experience in the finance, construction and capital asset sectors spans a diverse range of highly sought-after services. His roles have required significant strategic, implementation, negotiation, stakeholder and financial management skills in high pressure, growth and turnaround environments. Julian’s passion is helping clients achieve business transformation outcomes involving complex operational change.
Julian is active in assisting the University of New South Wales with the Executive MBA program and holds degrees from the same university. He is a former Chartered Accountant and current graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Julian has lived and worked in South America, Africa, Asia and Europe and speaks both English and Spanish.
Sarah Nelson-Jonas is a Partner with Helmsman International Group and leads the firm’s Strategy, Design and Mobilisation practice. She has a Masters of Management from the University of Technology, Sydney. Sarah is a professional change and organisational design consultant with 20+ years’ experience in business, technology transformation programs in the financial services, resources, defence and aviation industries. Sarah has significant experience in analysis and transition planning relating to the development of complex, large scale change programs that transition entire operating models (system, process, policy, responsibilities, roles, structures and culture). Sarah supports leaders to translate strategy into reality for their people, by turning strategic vision into practical programs that mobilise people and deliver sustainable change. He has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland and a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from RMIT. Wayne has over 30 years’ experience across diverse sectors including defence, infrastructure, resources, aerospace and health. Andy Thomas is a Principal with Helmsman International Group and leads the firm’s Contract Performance practice.
